What a bathroom refit includes

  • Taking out the old bathroom
  • Fitting baths, basins, toilets and showers, and connecting the plumbing
  • Shower enclosures and bath screens
  • Wall and floor tiling, or bathroom wall panels
  • Vanity units and bathroom storage
  • Boxing in pipes and making good

Tiles or panels?

Tiles: the classic finish, with endless choice. Needs grouting, and the grout needs looking after.

Wall panels: waterproof boards with no grout lines. Quicker to fit, easy to wipe clean, and a good choice over old tiles in some cases.

We fit both. Happy to talk you through which suits your bathroom.

Wet rooms

It looks simple. What you can't see is what makes it work.

A wet room is a bathroom where the shower is part of the floor, with no tray and no step.

  • The floor has to fall to the drain, so water runs away instead of across the room.
  • Everything gets tanked: a waterproof layer over the floor and the walls in the wet area, before any tiles go on.

Skip either and you've got a leak waiting to happen. That's the part I'm fussy about. Before I quote, I'll look at your floor and where the waste can run, because not every floor suits a wet room without extra work.

Electrics in bathrooms

Bathrooms have special rules for electrics. The "special location" is the space within 0.6 metres of the edge of the bath or shower tray (1.2 metres from the shower head if there's no tray), from the floor up to 2.25 metres.

Adding to or changing circuits in that space, such as a new light, extractor fan or switch, must be done by a registered electrician or signed off by building control. So must any new circuit, such as one for an electric shower. Like-for-like replacements and repairs don't need certifying.

We have access to registered electricians who can help, and I'll tell you before I quote if your bathroom needs one.

Tired, or finished?

Mouldy sealant and grubby grout make a bathroom look worse than it is. Sometimes a reseal and regrout is all it needs.

Questions people ask

Something else? Ring me on 07402 685054.

Can you turn my bathroom into a wet room?

Often, yes. It depends on the floor and where the waste can run, because a wet room floor needs a fall to the drain. I'll look before I quote and tell you straight.

Do you do the tiling?

Yes. We tile walls and floors, and we fit bathroom wall panels too.

Can you fit an electric shower?

We fit the shower itself, but the new circuit it needs must be done by a registered electrician. We have access to electricians who can help.

Do I need building regulations approval for a new bathroom?

Refitting a bathroom with new fittings doesn't generally need approval. Drainage or electrical work that's part of the refit may, and a bathroom in a room that didn't have one before is likely to. Any existing extractor fan must be kept or replaced. See the Planning Portal's guidance.

Are quotes free?

Yes.

Building regulations: see the Planning Portal's guidance on kitchens and bathrooms.
